I was born at the age of three in a log cabin I built myself on the source of the Mighty Mississippi. From the time I was a little boy, my parents told me I could be whatever I wanted to be (the American Dream)! Every time I asked my parents if I could do something, their first response was "NO". For the last 26 years, I have been educating the youth of the United States.
Education, if it is to be successful, needs to wake up those students who have fallen asleep, to make them truly active and concerned, and to ensure that every student feels as if they are masters of their learning, their school, and their life.
Got Dirt Get Dirty -- Education is not a dinner party, it is writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing a math problem; but it cannot be so refined, so leisurely and gentle, so temperate, kind, courteous, restrained and magnanimous. An education is an insurrection, perhaps an act of metaphysical violence by which one overthrows a previous thought of another. (paraphrased from a Mao quote -- Revolution is not a dinner party)
